Visually organize your calendar by color-coding events

Overview

This guide shows how to use colors and tags in Morgen to understand how your time is spent. You’ll learn when to use calendar colors, scheduled task and event colors, and tag colors, so you can spot patterns at a glance, plan with more confidence, and keep your calendar clear and calming.

Why Use Colors and Tags?

By using colors in Morgen, you can:

  • Instantly see how your time is spent (meetings vs deep work vs routines vs personal time)
  • Make more informed decisions when planning your week
  • Spot imbalances, like too many meetings or too little recovery time
  • Create a calendar that’s not just functional, but also visually clear and calming

Calendar Colors

Each calendar (work, personal, shared, etc.) has a primary color. This color is used as the base indicator for events and tasks from that calendar.

You can:

  • Use calendar colors to distinguish major life areas (e.g. work vs personal)
  • Keep calendar colors broad and stable, and use task or tag colors for a more specific meaning

How to edit calendar colors:

  • Head to your profile and click on “Preferences”
  • Under Preferences, choose “Active calendars”
  • Choose your calendar account
  • Click on the three dots next to the calendar set
  • Pick a color or create a new one with a color picker

Scheduled Task, Routines, and Event Colors

You can override the calendar color for individual scheduled tasks, routines, or events.

This is especially useful for:

  • Highlighting important tasks
  • Giving routines a consistent visual identity
  • Making task sessions easier to spot on busy calendars

How to edit task, routine, or event colors:

  1. Open or create a task, routine, or event
  2. Click the color icons next to the calendar name
  3. Pick any color from the color selection

Task Tag Colors

Task tags can also have their own colors:

  • Tag colors apply anywhere the tag is shown (task lists, planner suggestions, frames, calendar sessions)
  • Changing a tag’s color updates all tasks using that tag
  • Tag colors only affect tags. To change a task’s overall color, follow the “Task and Events color” steps.

Tag colors are ideal for:

  • Areas of responsibility (Admin, Work, Personal)
  • Energy levels (High / Medium / Low)
  • Contexts (Email, Calls, Deep Work)

👉 See the Task Tags Guide for details on creating and managing tags.

Morgen Tips

💡 Review Time Allocation: Use colors to quickly audit whether your week matches your priorities.

💡 Be Consistent: Use the same color for the same meaning (e.g. purple for routines, blue for focused work).
