Morgen v4 is coming: What’s new and what’s changing

Accessing Morgen in the browser has been the most requested feature from our community, and it’s finally (almost!) here. This September, with Morgen v4, you’ll be able to use Morgen directly in your browser, as well as on desktop (Windows, macOS, and Linux).
This release also includes major improvements in performance, reliability, and a simplified setup. We’ve reworked key systems to make Morgen faster and more robust, while laying the foundation for future enhancements.
At the same time, the transition to v4 introduces some important changes that may affect a small number of users. Here’s what to expect:
Ending support for Exchange On-Premises
Starting with v4, Morgen will no longer support on-premises Microsoft Exchange.
Microsoft is ending support for Exchange Server 2016 and 2019 on October 14, 2025. After this date, these servers won’t receive security updates or technical support. Microsoft has encouraged organizations to transition to Exchange Online or Office 365, which are more secure, scalable, and cost-effective.
Morgen fully supports Exchange Online and Office 365 through modern authentication and APIs, according to Microsoft’s recommended best practices.
Currently, less than 1% of active Morgen accounts rely on Exchange On-Premises. Because these calendars depend on a deprecated protocol, we cannot sustain support moving forward.
➡️ What this means for you:
If your organization still uses Exchange On-Premises, you can continue with Morgen v3 until at least summer 2026, giving time to transition. Once your company moves to Exchange Online or Office 365, you’ll be able to upgrade to v4.
Ending support for “legacy” CalDAV accounts
Morgen has always aimed to support as many calendar providers as possible. We remain committed to the CalDAV standard and will continue to support fully featured providers such as iCloud and Fastmail.
However, some CalDAV implementations are outdated or incomplete. To ensure a reliable experience, Morgen v4 will only support CalDAV servers that provide:
- The ability to fetch events in a specific date range (calendar-query REPORT). This enables features such as showing your availability on your booking page.
- The ability to sync changes incrementally instead of re-downloading everything (sync-collection REPORT). This keeps synchronization fast and efficient.
➡️ What this means for you:
If you use a CalDAV provider other than iCloud or Fastmail, please test it now in the Morgen v4 beta. If you run into issues, let us know and we’ll confirm whether your provider can be supported.
You can continue using Morgen v3 until summer 2026 if your provider is not compatible with v4.
Ending support for local-only calendar servers
In v3, it was possible to connect CalDAV accounts that were only accessible on a local network or through a VPN. These setups were never compatible with the Morgen mobile app or with features that rely on our servers, such as Scheduling Links or Morgen Workflows.
With v4, the desktop app will also no longer be able to connect to calendars restricted to local or VPN access.
Other key improvements in v4
Simplified account connections
The distinction between “locally connected” and “cloud connected” calendar accounts is going away. In v4, accounts are simply connected, making setup easier, synchronization more reliable, and the system less complex.
Importantly, our approach to privacy and security remains unchanged: calendar data is never stored on Morgen’s backend. Our servers only proxy calendar data, which is always stored locally on your device.
Performance and reliability
We’ve rebuilt internal systems to make Morgen faster, more resilient, and more scalable. These changes also prepare us for supporting future platforms such as Windows ARM.
Can I keep using Morgen v3?
Yes. Morgen v3 will remain available at least until summer 2026.
- v3 will continue to work as a desktop app (Windows, macOS, Linux).
- v3 will not be available in the browser.
- v3 will no longer receive new features or improvements, and support will be limited.
To give you full control, we’ll release a final version of v3 that allows you to disable automatic updates to v4. More details will follow closer to release.
Looking ahead
The transition to Morgen v4 is a big step forward, helping our community:
- Access Morgen in the browser for the first time
- Enjoy faster, more reliable apps
- Benefit from simpler account management and a cleaner foundation for future improvements
We encourage you to try the Morgen v4 beta today to experience what’s new and confirm that your setup works as expected.
If you have any questions, we’re here to help. Thank you for being part of the Morgen community as we take this next step together.
